4/22/2015 Unethical Practice

1.Why do you think that most people use unethical practices to cheat academically?
I think that most people use unethical practices to cheat academically because they are very tired of working and they don’t want to keep going because they think it’s too hard for them. They would be better off doing their work themselves because it could ruin your future and expel you from your school. Even though they feel that they can’t do it, they still need to try hard and go through it.

2.Which one of the four offenses committed you think should have been let off with a warning rather than expelled? Why?
I think that of the four offenses committed, Sandra should have been left off with a warning rather than expelled because she was the one who did the work and she didn’t take someone’s work, like her partner did to her. I see why she was expelled because she knew of him copying down a few sentences, but I don’t think it was her fault that her partner copied off her and got them both in trouble. Also she wasn’t fully aware of what he was doing because she was working.

3.What kinds of problems will follow the students with this on their record?
The problems they will see plagiarism, ghost-writing, purloining, and collusion on their record. All of these things can affect what school they get accepted in, because of the things they did, and also it can affect what jobs they get because some places may think that they aren’t trust worthy enough to have an important job.
4.Search the unethical academic practices or plagiarism at the school you want to attend and see what the offense for these practices are and explain
For Iowa State University they do not tolerate plagiarism in the university. They have many policies including Policy on Academic Dishonesty, Faculty Handbook, and Code of Computer Ethics and Acceptable Use Policy. They do not allow plagiarism, copyright, etc.
